Class Information
We cover all the fundamentals that can make you competent with your chosen gun: eye dominance, proper stance, grip, sight picture, sight alignment, trigger control, recoil management and follow through. We cover holster types, proper clothing choices and insurance options. When you complete our class, you will have the documentation you need to obtain your Florida CCW license, and the tools you need to continue to train safely, both at home and at the range. With Florida’s Permitless Carry Law that went into effect on July first, 2023, one no longer must obtain a CCW license to carry a concealed weapon. However, we encourage our students to get a CCW anyway, both for the training it provides and a measure of legal protection if you are ever involved in a self-defense incident. It is also neccessary if you want to carry in any state other than Florida.
If you are reluctant to get a CCW license, we recommend, at the least, a gun safety and marksmanship course to properly prepare yourself to be competent with your chosen firearm.
We offer ongoing training in marksmanship and defensive shooting drills in our more advanced classes, as well as training for new shooters. Children must be age 7 at minimum for shooting on the range and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
For any class, please go to volusiacountygunclub.com and fill out the online waiver there for each student. You can access the waiver by clicking on the red tab at the bottom of the page.
Please bring eye and ear protection, your firearm and holster (if you have a holster) and at least 50 rounds of ammunition. Please wear closed toed shoes and comfortable clothing. Eye protection must be worn at all times while on the property. Do not exit your vehicle without eye protection.
Volusia Gun Club is a “cold” range so be sure your gun is unloaded and fully encased in a gun bag or case of some kind. I have also attached a gun safety rule sheet for you to study.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We look forward to seeing you in class!
